Gorgeous, clean, excellent white tea from Panxi, a favored terrain in the core of Fuding.  This tea is for those who seek out a fresh, tippier, easy-going Fuding white, yet want to stave off the agrochemicals that its conventional garden ecologies are known for.

The classification of 老丛 Lao Cong Old Bush has found its way into the marketing of Fuding whites recently, and trees allowed to grow unpruned and over a mere 40 years of age seem to now be able to qualify.

The Wu family’s older thickets were planted in the early 70s by Yiqiang's grandfather, and while just 50 years old may seem youthful for lao cong categorization, for us it’s the clean ecological management associated with lao cong gardens that is the most attractive feature in this case.

Harvested in late March and fully sun-withered, this white peony fumigates summer meadow flowers, yields a light-medium body with salivating malt quality with hint of cinnamon, fresh linen.  Layers of Applejacks sweetness reveal themselves, finishing out with a textured minerality and sweet green apple not unlike a high mountain formosa oolong's later steeps.

This 白牡丹 Bai Mu Dan mostly features the peony plucking standard of 1 bud 2 leaves, yet also has a decent amount of pickings bordering on king peony grade, 1 bud 1 leaf.  Enjoy this exceptional, bud-rich white peony.

The tea cake inkwork for this release was penned by our friend Green, a tea friend we met in 2019 during our travels in northern Yunnan.  Him and his girlfriend are artists that run a teashop in the small town of Shaxi.  Each cake features a drawing of one of his favorite birds in China.
